Savings on Computer Software
Here are some tips for saving on software and sources for
obtaining free software online:
- Check the bargain bins at Computer stores for older software.
Often times a $30 piece of 5-10 year old bargain software will sell for
around $3 and will work fine on newer computers.
- Make sure to avoid "free software" that requires you to download
adware. Adware will often "take over" your computer, resulting in
unwanted (and sometimes very inappropriate) pop-up ads and web pages.
For this reason, many refer to adware as spyware. To detect and
remove adware, install the free adware remover called
ad-aware by Lavasoft.
- Obtain free software and share ware at
Download.com. Note however, that the Editor's Note will mention
whether or not the software comes bundled with third party applications
that may record your surfing habits, deliver advertising, collect
private information, or modify your system settings. Avoid such
software!
