See how you can save and buy desktop computers for less
and find desktop computers for sale cheap.
- If you can, bring a friend along knowledgeable in computers to buy
your system.
- Buy a system that meets your needs - not the needs of your
salesperson! If you are not doing a lot of memory intensive work, find
the least expensive system with 512MB RAM, and a CDRW (CD
Read-Write) or DVDRW drive to backup up your files on CD or DVD. Such a
system can currently (Sept/06) be purchased for around $400 - $800.
- Keep in mind that whatever system you buy, no matter how great it
seems at the moment will probably be obsolete in 5 years or less. If you
buy computers for less now, in 5 years you will be giving your children
a less expensive system to play games on and you will save a lot of
money! You can find desktop computers for sale cheap at BestBuy or
similar outlets..
- Watch out for the hard-sell add-ons to your system! You will
be pressured, sometimes with dire warnings, to buy an extended warranty,
extra software, internet service, and more for what could easily total
$300 or more! Most of the time, most or all of this is un-needed.
Best to just say "No" at the time and consult with a knowledgeable
unbiased third party and make a separate trip to buy the software or
services. In owning three computer systems over 10 years, the
author of this site has never had to take a computer in for repair - the
problems one usually has involve software.
- Never buy your accessories like USB cables at the computer store!
Rather, get them at a shopping center. You may pay as much as double for
the accessories at the computer store!
